In Wales we met a shop clerk who had been to Seattle (about 20 years ago). She remembered flying in and seeing “that mountain where they cut all the trees down at the top.” After some back and forth to determine if she meant St Helens or Rainier we were sure she meant Rainier.
I found it interesting that she thought they had cut all the trees down off the top. But, Mt Rainier at 14,410ft is almost 4 times higher than the highest mountian in all of Wales (Mt. Snowden at 3,560 ft) and would not be familiar with the concept of a tree line at that sort of elevation.
Seeing a mountain with a definite treeline is interesting, if you have never seen one before. Abrupt treelines are common in Colorado, which is where I have seen them most often.
