Thursday with the Dickersons

Thursday we headed out for a day of York sightseeing in a steady rain.  We walked to the York Castle Museum.  It has a fabulous mock up of an old street, with the shopfronts displaying the everyday wares of life in 1800s York.  The museum seemed to be geared mainly for local people and not for international tourists – which made it different and more interesting for me.

In the afternoon we split up and Lowell and Dad went to the National Railway Museum and Mom and I did some shopping and spent time in the cathedral.  I had never been to York Minster before – and it is a really special place.  It is light and bright, like Wells, but York is larger and I think has more stained glass.  I hope to go back with Steve someday and spend more time exploring the Minster (as I spent most of my time in the Minster on a tour with a tour guide that talked more about English history that happened elsewhere than she talked about the Minster itself)

Here’s a shot from inside the chapter house.  Ambient light, no retouch.  Honest.
