Doc Martin

Although we don’t watch much telly, we have stumbled across one really good show – Doc Martin.  It is about a doctor in a small village in Cornwall.

The show is in many ways similar to a show that was on in the early 1990s in America called Northern_Exposure.  I loved that show as a kid.  Steve only saw it a couple times in syndication.
NE was about a doctor in a small town in Alaska.  The similarities are uncanny.  Both very small, remote towns; awkward, neurotic doctor; receptionist who was quirky and never did quite what the doctor wanted; cute ‘girl next door’ local love interest; cast of eccentric townspeople…I could go on and on.  This basic premise for a comedy/drama series probably works with slight variation in any culture in the world:-)
