The Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta

The Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta is being held at the end of our lane this weekend.  This event is much more our speed than the Henley Royal Regatta.  The W-S is a family event, tailgating like I know it.  Entry to the event is pretty open, just sign up and take a couple practice runs.  The picture below shows a typical race.

The weather today, well, left much to be desired.  It felt like 8-Oct, not 8-Aug.  The hearty English spectators though, would not be swayed.  The crowd was enthusiastic, cheering for their family and neighbors as they raced.  This was not a see-and-be-seen crowd.

Well, actually they did often retreat to the food and beverage tent.  We followed their lead.

After a half hour of this dismal view, the liquid encouragement was not enough to get us go stand around in the rain for another hour, so we headed back home.  On our way out one of the tailgate tents blew completely over, no doubt soaking the occupants.  Good time to head home…we’re tempted to build a fire.  Some summer!

Sorry I’ve been so lax on blogging these past two weeks – very busy with work and still fighting jet lag.  I’m open to suggestions of jet lag remedies.  Cold, wet Saturdays are not helping:-)

  1. Ahh, British nontraditional. Started to think you had dropped off the face of the planet.

Hehe. It’s definitely August in Texas. We went to our running group this morning and it was HOT at 5:30 AM.
